Apologies: if you receive this for the 3rd time: if you did not receive this before: On shift MT*, SP (see demotion email) 20:00 11/9 Present at beginning WB, GS, RM, FM, SB, XF, MS to 08:00 11/10 Present in middle PM, XF Present throughout GZ, KG. RunPlan: Some data for tzero (changed CCAL HV's) and FCAL and then chi-2 data at a point above the peak, to be followed by point on the peak, point below the peak, a background point a point at the chi-1 and then decelerate to J/psi. How many points of the above depends on the stack size. Initially we would like 70 mA. Stacking had started well on Friday early afternoon and by saturday 10 am there were about 40 mA. We agreed to stack till 8 pm. Unfortunately stacking did not go well during the day on Saturday because some cooling device needed at higher stack currents broke (was broken). By 8 pm there were just over 51 mA. Deceleration seemed to go very well and by 10 pm we had cooled beam at the energy we had asked for, 51 mA decelerated to 3557.00, 1 MeV (CM) above the chi-2 peak. Turned the system on and and many things looked fine. However 3 hours were spent trying to resolve hangs in the PCOS system. We looked for glitch or runt gates to the PCOS and could not see any. Eventually in an attempt to see which of the PCOS crates was the culprit, we found that running with one crate alone worked reliably. We decided to run this way and by moving 3 PCOS modules from the second crate, the Sci-fi is completely readout either by PCOS or by FERA. Details are in the log book. Run 740 was the first data run of the night and is 10**6 triggers of ETOT for tzeros and the FCAL calibration. Run 741 is the first charmonium run of the night. It has 61 nb-1. It died because... there is a new problem with the filter buffers and the dfm which results in the filters being aborted. The only changes we can think of are the updates to the operating system ("fixes") that were put in last week. At a lower level, H1 #8 is weak (TDC & trig~15% of typical, TDC value is 30 ns greater) H2 #32 is enthusiastic ((TDC appears ~ 2 typical, 2nd peak in TDC spectrum) Straws look bad: Straw 1 is very uneven- some time spectra seem fine, Straw 2 seems to be off. (I don't know if we can trust the voltages on the instruction sheet.) The day shift will surely solve these problems. (Since this is sent out late because of some new quirk in my email, I believe I can say the buffer problem was fixed; some (other) change had been made (to the number of events/buffer)..when this was undone, things went ok.)
