E835 Weekly Meeting Minutes -- January 18, 2000 (KEG reporting) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: Weekly Meetings are held Tuesday and Thursdays at 5pm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The meeting was essentially status reports of each subsystem and what is needed before beam-jet interactions on Saturday. Gas Jet: A new pump is being added to the nitrogen supply line to the AP50 pit. The jet's nitrogen flow was turned off to allow enough nitrogen to flow to the cryostat system while cooling down. The pump will be added tomorrow and then both the Jet and cryostat systems should receive enough nitrogen. Hodoscopes: All photomultipliers are working. All connections are good. Straws: Replacing a bad low voltage power supply. The thresholds are being set higher than 1996/97 due to noise. Will await beam data to determine effect on efficiency. SCIFI: The cryostat is cold (7K). A LED system is flashing the VLPCs and signals are being observed on a scope upstairs. A full blown LED test is planned for tomorrow which will use the DAQ and the detector online monitor program. There is some work to be done involving writing new histogramming booking and filling routines and integrating them into the detector online monitor system. Also an LED trigger signal will need to be provided. Cerenkov: PMTs are good. All cells are flowing CO2. The gas will not be changed for running at injection energies. Freon will have to be delivered to the gas shed bottle racks. CCAL: A single shorted cable will be fixed tomorrow (this was mistakenly thought to be a bad summer channel). Need a short time with HV and no beam to finish cable verification. FCAL: It is believed that there are no swapped channels; still would like to run successfully the 1ON-1OFF test. There are two dead medium block PMTs (not fixable) and two bad shaper board channels were found. One of the spare boards also has a bad channel. A temporary re-cabling will be done so that a dead PMT's shaper board channel is used by a working PMT while an operational amplifier is purchased for the spare board. Charged Trigger: Believed to be all cabled; await timed counter signals. Neutral Trigger: There some work to check/set some discriminator thresholds. Will also re-run 1ON-1OFF test after fixing some of the cabling. DAQ: Successfully have run the main data configuration; work will be done to setup specialty configurations for writing a file or to tape(s). It is believed that the luminosity and scaler data streams are working fine; both need verification. The ACNET data stream is unlikely to be the final format for this weekends data taking. Detector Online Monitor: Has been receiving data successfully and displaying pedestal hit maps successfully. The buffer configuration has been tested to show that an online monitor can select the type of buffer(s) to receive. Computing: It was brought up that there is little free disk space on the backend systems for work space. The 1996/97 gold files (45GBytes) will be spooled off onto tape. There remains ~25Gbytes of scratch space that remains full. Please clean up any files that you no longer need. Offline: Work progresses. Stephen Pordes requests that all electrical line drawings be provided to him by the end of Wednesday. This documentation for electrical safety. The next meeting will be devoted to understanding/scheduling the work with beam-jet interactions for 40 hours starting at 8am Saturday morning. All groups should provide what they will work upon, how long, what is needed (prior work and equipment). If an access is needed to fix something after looking at interactions, it will occur on the Monday Owl shift. See Stephen's email from yesterday concerning the rest of this week's schedule. Present: Baldini, Bettoni, Calabrese, Cibinetto, Gollwitzer, Graham, Joffe, Kasper, Menichetti, Obertino, Pordes, Roethel, Seo, M Stancari ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Old Weekly Meeting Minutes available through WWW http://www-e835.fnal.gov/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Disclaimer: Spelling, coherence and such are not guaranteed.
