Three bad news items (thats what we get for trying to plan) 1) Helium contamination. The contamination does not allow the new debuncher pickups to stay at their design operating temperature. It also affects the E835 cryostat (the dewar can provide helium for a small period of time). The helium is expect to be better on Monday and liquid helium temperature will be possible. 2) The refrigeration engine used by the new debuncher cooling system to produce liquid helium has self destructed (not due to item 1). The rebuilding the engine will start on Monday. Stacking can occur with the debuncher at liquid Nitrogen temperature...rate will not be as high. At this time I don't know if helium gas flow to the E835 cryo system will be affected or not while this rebuid occurs. 3) The reason why stacking did not get going is that the aperture of the debuncher is ~3(~2) smaller in the horizontal(vertical) plane. The new cooling pickups are the new items in the ring and appear to be the problem. Each tank has upstream and downstream position motors. However, the 5mm travel distance is not enough; moving a single tank can make the aperture smaller but not better. Work continues to try and understand; it may take another round of surveying. Needless to say, I would not expect beam Sun, Mon and possibly Tue. I'll send out more information tomorrow. Keith
