Here is the latest news. The first tank's leak is not at the end of the tank, where access could be achieved, but in the middle of the tank at a flexible liquid nitrogen cooling connection. This requires opening up the tank and pulling the pickup arrays to fix the leak; it is expected that a fix could be finished on Wednesday. The second tank's leak has not been isolated yet. Indications are that the leak is near an end of the tank and will allow for "in-situ" repair. The exact location will still need to be determined. If the leak, unfortunately, is in the middle of the tank, the repair will have to be done after the first tank due to having only one array fixture for moving the pickup arrays in and out of the tank. After both tanks are fixed, there will be a 5 day bake out of the sector. Then the accumulator can be energized. Hence the best scenario for starting up the accumulator is Tuesday March 28; a stack for E835 would be a few days later. The AP50 pit and tunnel area will be in supervised access through the tanks repair work. While the bake out occurs, the area will be controlled access with some beam studies involving the debuncher and beamlines. Keith ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Good Afternoon- There is good news on the A60 vacuum front. This morning the tank 4 array was pulled out of the tank and just before lunch a leak was identified near the lower flex line at the bottom middle of the tank. The leak is underneath the copper shield and appears to be at the stainless to aluminum joint - odds are it's the press fit. This afternoon, our vacuum warriors will be peeling the shield away to expose the joint and pinpoint the leak. Hopefully the repair will follow in short order. Tank 1 work continues at a slow pace, only because the leak is significantly smaller than tank 4's. Yesterday's leak checking pointed to a problem near the downstream end of the tank. This morning the downstream flange was removed and taping and bagging commenced in earnest. Nothing definitive yet. Regards, Elvin
