Shift Summary for 6/6/00 8:00-16:00 On Shift: JK,MN Log Book #8 Pages 53-57 Run Summary: 1P1 (3526.25 MeV ... the cursed point) Current Before Deceleration : 50.5 mA Current at Beginning of Running: 45.7 mA Current at end of Shift : 42.3 mA Typical Luminosity: 2.7x10^31 cm^-2 s^-1 Typical Beam Width: 1.8 MeV/c Run 5782 Pedestal Run 5783 Given to Evening Shift Comments: 1 DAQ Hang. 14:25 The beam loss jumped to -2.7 mA/hr. We decided to give it a couple minutes to verify that it was not just a fluke fluctuation. After two minutes it jumped to -5 mA/hr so we called Giulio. 10 minutes later he called to say the emittances had blown up because a cooling power supply had tripped. We paused run 5783 and turned off the jet (and straws) while this was fixed. 15:25 Still paused. The momentum cooling power supply tripped when an air compressor on the same circuit kicked in. One of them is now being moved to a different circuit. Until it is moved, Giulio says that a different cooling system can be used to keep the beam from blowing up, but it can't control the energy (it has already drifted substantially). So, we can't resume running until the old power supply is in place (estimated to be shortly after 4:00p). Good Evening, Jason & Matteo run 5783 and turned off the jet (and straws) while this was fixed. 15:25 Still paused.
